One Time, One Meeting

Last month, Wen¹, a friend from the guitar community, recommended that I participate in the BlogBlog Gathering event. Thanks to my guitar student Ivan, I was able to set up this personal website. Wen happened to discover it and encouraged me to join in! I first heard the phrase "one time, one meeting" as the title of an article posted by a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. After looking it up, I learned it means "perhaps you'll only meet once in a lifetime, so be fully present in the moment and leave no regrets." While I was happy to be taken seriously, I also thought to myself: is it really that dramatic? 😆

This was in 2020.

I met many people in 2020. Because I released the "Toward the Sun" guitar performance EP that year, I had many promotional activities and performances, constantly meeting all kinds of people. My guitar teaching work also became more stable that year, and I reconnected with many friends I hadn't seen in a long time. It was also around that time that I started using Google Calendar, mainly for the administrative convenience of scheduling my private students' lessons. But after using it for a while, I also began using it to record little things in my life—like who I met that day and how I felt about it. Compared to carrying a notebook around and writing diary entries and notes by hand, now I can record both future plans and daily events with just a tap of my thumb, and I can even set reminders on my phone! When writing this article, I picked up my phone and flipped through those old records. Each week's events are categorized by different colors and a vertical timeline, and suddenly they stirred up deep memories.

Looking at it day by day, it feels like I'm living through that period all over again.

But precisely because it's so convenient, I became aware that among the people I met that year, some I never saw again. The phrase "one time, one meeting" appeared long before the internet era. For someone living before the twentieth century, this phrase must have felt very real!

I'm really happy to have participated in this gathering of like-minded people. Writing this article has given me a lot to reflect on. Thank you for reading this piece 😊
